Abstract

217,647. Lowden, T. W. March 19, 1923. Vacuum tubes. - The anode of a valve consists of a wire helix 3 with spaced turns surrounding t h e cathode 1, the ends of the wire being connected with supports 6 insulated from each other so that no part of the helix is short-circuited, and one of the supports acts as a lead-in. The grid 3a may consist of a wire helix mounted on supports 7 in a similar manner, the pitch of the turns being generally less than that of the anode. The helices may be welded to the supports or the ends of the wire may serve as supports. The leads 12 may be insulated by glass tubes 14. The anode and grid supports may all extend through the pinch 8 so that a current may be passed through the electrodes during evacuation of the bulb. The helices may be of circular, oval or other tubular section. According to the Provisional Specification, the wire may be of square or rectangular section, or in the form of a strip.
