Abstract

514,456. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, LTD., and GOODCHILD, F. D. May 6, 1938, No. 13614. [Class 39 (i)] An electron discharge device, comprising an envelope containing an electrode structure including a screening grid and an end shield having an outwardly-extending cylindrical portion through which a leading-in wire passes, is characterised by the provision on the envelope of an inverted dome-shaped part extending into the end shield. Fig. 2 shows a valve comprising an envelope 1 including . a stem 2 on which is mounted the electrode structure, comprising three grid electrodes, the anode A, B and a central cathode supported between inica end plates 3 carried by rods 4 and brackets 5. The connection 7, Fig. 1, to the control grid is brought out at the top which is formed of inverted domeshape so as to provide for the effective shielding of the connection by a shield 6 supported in the envelope by mica plates engaging the wall thereof. With other electrode structures it may be desirable to bring the anode leading-in wire through the end shield and the upper part of the envelope.
