Abstract

805,395. Electron beam apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 9, 1955 [Sept. 14, 1954], No. 25849/55. Class 39(1). A tuning indicator has at least two cylindrical deflecting electrodes 6, 7, Fig. 4, electrically connected together so as to be at the same D.C. potential and arranged on the same side of the cathode 1 with their axes in the same plane as the cathode axis. The use of rods 6, 7 of circular cross section rather than the known metal sheets ensures good definition of the edges of the flourescent sector, while the deflection sensitivity is increased by having two rods 6, 7 on the same side of the cathode instead of one rod. The deflection rods 6, 7 may be parallel and 7 may have the same or a larger diameter than 6, Figs 1, 2 (not shown). The deflection rods 6, 7 may be at an angle to one another to give linear edges of the luminous sector for large deflection angles and this may be conveniently achieved by forming the deflecting electrodes 6, 7 as a single hairpin, as shown. The cathode 1, grid 2 and deflecting leectrodes 6, 7 are held by mica discs 5, 3 is the luminescent screen and 4 a cover.
