Abstract
553,943. Cathode-ray oscillographs. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 13, 1941, No. 7499. Convention date, June 27, 1940. [Class 37] [Also in Group XL] In a cathode ray oscillograph wherein the beam deflection is proportional to the logarithm of the deflecting voltage a fluorescent screen 44 Fig. 8, is used with deflector plates 36c; field plates 39c maintain the beam in focus. For measuring a wide range of potentials, three such tubes A, B, C, Fig. 9, are connected across a series of resistances R1, R2, R3, the potential to be measured being applied across the ends LI, L2; the plates 36c of the tube A are placed across R1, plates of tube B across R1 and R2, and of the tube C across all, the field plates being connected to the mid point of the resistances. If desired an additional variable may be shown on the screen by applying a variable magnetic field, say by coils 45, Fig. 8.
