Abstract
541,569. Cathode-ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and SMYTH. C. N. June 1, 1940, No. 9628. [Class 39 (i)J [Also in Group XXXVI] A cathode-ray tube for use in an oscillograph is provided with a pair of deflecting devices at right angles which cause the beam to form a circular track on the screen and a second pair which produce deflections corresponding to the incoming signal. The first pair of devices, shown as coils A, are fed from a sinusoidal source 5 through a phase-splitting device 6 and amplifiers 1, 2. The second pair B are fed from the signal source C through amplifiers 3, 4, the grids of which are so controlled from the amplifiers 1, 2 that the deflection produced by the coils B is normal to the trace produced by the coils A. To enable the coils B to produce both positive and negative indications with respect to the trace they are each fed through a system such as shown in Fig. 2. Two valves V1, V2 are connected in push-pull to one of the coils B and the grids V1, G2 are connected in parallel to the signal source C, so that a signal-pulse in one direction renders one of the valves V1, V2 conductive and produces a deflection in one direction and a pulse in the opposite direction produces on opposite deflection through the other valve.
