Abstract

528,801. Cathode-ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and COLE, R. A. L. May 5, 1939, No. 13493. [Class 39 (i)] The deflecting system for cathode-ray tubes consists of two pairs of coils A, B and C, D encompassing the neck of the tube, the coils in each pair crossing each other obliquely and being connected in series or in parallel so as to produce two magnetic fields perpendicular to each other and to the axis of the tube. In order to provide symmetry in the magnetic fields, the layers or groups of layers in the different coils are preferably interleaved in winding, and where this involves bridging connections these may be arranged to cut out any field parallel to the axis of the tube or to provide such field as may be required for focusing purposes. The bunching of the coils where they cross may be accommodated in a construction of the neck of the tube, or in grooves in a former or both.
