Abstract
478,260. Cathode-ray tubes. FERNSEH AKT.-GES. July 16, 1936, No. 19739. Convention date, July 16, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] A pair of deflecting coils have each one or more sets of side-conductors parallel to the undeflected ray, and the end-conductors joining these side conductors are so arranged that their mean distance from the region of deflection is substantially greater than that of the side-conductors. In one form, Fig. 5, the side-conductors 1 parallel to the undeflected ray are joined by end-conductors 2 curved as shown. Each coil may be wound as a flat rectangular coil, and shaped by bending first the portions 1 at right-angles to the portions 2 and then the portions 2 as shown. In a modification, Fig. 9, two pairs of rectangular coils 6, 9 are wound on formers 8 having a rectangular crosssection perpendicular to the plane of the paper. The formers may support the tube 9. Additional coils having their end-conductors adjacent the end-conductors of the deflecting coils, and their side-conductors remote from the deflecting coils and carrying an equal current in the opposite direction may be used. The field may be made homogeneous by increasing the current density towards the edge of the side-conductors, by an additional winding, or by inclining adjacent conductors of each coil at a slight angle.
