Abstract

721,599. Cathode-ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1951 [Dec. 27, 1950], No. 25098/51.. Class 39 (1) A voltage indicator contains a luminescent anode grid and cathode voltage control electrodes, and a number of amplifiers arranged at the same distance along the length of the cathode. For an amplifier, the cathode, Fig. 1, of oval or circular cross-section is surrounded by measuring electrodes 2, 3 extending over part of the cathode. Screen grids 8, shaped as metal strips, bars or grids, are used for determining the anode currents, increasing the sensitivity of the control electrodes or for the production 'of a space charge within which the control electrodes are arranged. The anodes of an amplifier are connected to the voltage control electrodes of the indicating electrode assembly. Additional anodes may be provided in the electron path, and the indicator may be suitable for both frequency modulated and amplitude modulated receivers or combined receivers. The grids consist of helical coils or of curved perforated sheets or slotted plates so arranged that the slots of adjacent grids intersect.at 90‹ so that screening of one grid by another is reduced. The plate-shaped grid nearest the cathode is constructed so that parts such as the support rods of these grids are shielded from the electron stream. The screen grids 2, Fig. 2, are formed of rods 8, 9 connected together or formed by a hair-pin shaped rod, and arranged within the measuring grids 2, 3. The rod-shaped measuring grids may be arranged within a screen grid or formed of two pairs of rods 2 ... 5, Fig. 4, each pair connected together and constructed to form a unit. Additional rod-shaped screen grids may be arranged between the pairs 2, 3 and 4, 5. Positive measuring grids which are not shaped are located on diagonals which join opposite ends of segment-shaped balance grids. The anodes 12, 13 of the amplifier shown in Fig. 7 are continued to join the voltage-measuring electrodes of the indicating assembly. Measuring electrodes 2, 3 and a screen grid 8 are provided; in modifications, the electrodes 2, 3, Fig. 7, consist of strips arranged on opposite sides of the cathode 1 or the anodes 12, 13 are shaped as metal strips extended to join the voltage-measuring electrodes, or an additional segment-shaped screen grid is symmetrically arranged between the pair of anodes 12, 13 and the screen grid 8. The positive potential on the anode 14, Fig. 11, is adjustable so that a larger electron flow to the anodes 12, 17 is obtained. A screen grid 8 is provided; in modifications, the anode 14 is a rod arranged between the anodes 12, 17 or the anodes 12, 11, and control electrodes 2, 3 are formed of strips, the anode 14 being dispensed with, or a rod-shaped additional anode is fitted between inclined strip anodes 12, 17, arcuate control electrodes 2, 3 surrounding the cathode 1. Specification 703,660 is referred to.
