Vacuum tubes. - A thermionic filament consists of two or more branches, and each branch is encircled by a separate grid and a separate. anode, the grids being connected together, and the anodes consisting of two or more sections in parallel, each section being shaped so as to separate each filament branch and its grid from the others. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the filament has three parallel branches a, b, reach surrounded by a helical grid h, k, s and an anode c, d, t consisting of a radial portion and an arcshaped portion. The filament branches are connected in series by cross-pieces o, u, v, and the grids in parallel by cross-pieces l, w. The anodes are mounted on a single support e. The supports are spaced by glass bridge-pieces p, q. In a modification, four sets of electrodes are arranged in a similar manner, and in another arrangement two sets are provided, the anodes being of cylindrical shape.
