Abstract
237,053. Mullard Radio Valve Co., Ltd., and Mullard, S. R. May 20, 1924. Vacuum tubes.-A thermionic valve has a filament-cathode 4, Fig. 3, of inverted U or semicircular shape, a grid 1 formed from a zig-zag of wire bent to inverted channel form, and an anode plate 5 also of inverted channel form. The grid wire may be lashed or welded to a central backbone 2, Fig. 7, supported at one end only. The anode is stiffened by channels near the bent edges, and one of these channels has a gap to accommodate a single supporting wire 8 to which the anode is spot-welded. In order more completely to surround the hottest part of the filament, the middle part 15, Fig. 10, of the flat sides of the anode 5 may be bent inwards after slitting; the grid may be similarly shaped. Alternatively, the central portion of the grid and anode may be prolonged and bent under the filament as shown at 13 in Fig. 7. Both the cold electrodes may completely encircle the middle part of the filament. The wire zig-zag from which the grid is formed may have square or rounded corners.
