Abstract

321,553. Mullard Radio Valve Co., Ltd., and Krol, B. Nov. 9, 1928. Vacuum tubes. - A grid for a discharge tube comprises a wire coil, a substantial part of which adjacent to a supporting wire has its turns flattened so that they lie approximately in one plane and constitute a row of struts between the support and the unflattened grid proper. In one construction, Fig. 3, a wire 10 is wound, elliptically, around supports 12, and is then pressed to shape by means of dies 14 and :a former 16. The grid may have struts extending only on one side thereof, or arranged in three planes at 120‹ to one another in conjunction with three support wires, and may house a filamentary or indirectly heated cathode, and may be enclosed in an anode conforming approximately to its shape. Spaced notches on the support may house the grid wire, the edges being subsequently burred over e.g. by means of a steel roller. Cooling may be effected by the insertion of thin nickel plates 26, Fig. 13, between the struts. The electrode structure may be mounted so that its axis is either parallel or at right angles to the axis of the pinch.
