Abstract

297,886. Bullimore, W. R. March 30, 1927. Divided application. Vacuum tubes.-A valve has an indirectly-heated equipotential cathode in which one or more electronemitting surfaces 6 are formed on the inside of a cylinder 5 of silica or similar insulating material disposed within a vitreous envelope and around a central anode. A heating coil 7 is mounted around the cylinder, and its leads are taken through the upper end of 'the envelope. The anode consists of a metal tube 2 mounted around a glass tube 3 through which a cooling fluid such as water is circulated; or cooling fins may be provided on an extension of the anode outside the envelope. The leads for the anode, cathode, and grid 4, are taken through the lower end of the envelope. The cathode may be arranged so as to prevent the formation of induced; currents in the electron-emitting surface. Several sets of electrodes with a single heater may be mounted in an envelope. According to, the Provisional Specification the cathode and grid may be arranged inside the anode, and the cathode may have flat sides with rounded ends, the anode being in the form of a plate.
