Abstract

Vacuum tubes.-In a thermionic valve having a hollow cathode 1 of iron or other magnetic material heated by a filament 4 or other heating- element the leading-in wires 6 for the filament are sealed through one side of the pinch 15 and the leading-in wires for the other electrodes, particularly the wire 10 for the grid 2, are sealed through the other side of the pinch as far as possible from the filament leads. The cathode is preferably of chrome-iron, and is made longer than the filament and grid so as to reduce electrostatic and electromagnetic effects due to the filament; for the same purpose the central point of the filament is connected with the electrode. The outer surface of the cathode may be coated with an electron-emitting layer.
