Abstract
213,605. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. March 29, 1923, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes. - A cathode containing material emitting electrons at a lower temperature than tungsten is heated by one or more heaters, which, for a small part of their surface, are in direct contact with the cathode, but for a greater part are clear of the cathode. The cathode 5 may consist entirely of alkaline earth oxides or of a good heat conductor such as copper coated with oxides, and is supported by two heaters 11, 12 of high resistance material such as chrome-iron, or nickelchromium alloy, mounted on a foot 2 and connected in parallel by leads 17, 18. One lead for each heater is sealed through the foot and is connected with the secondary of a transformer. A separate lead 10 is provided for the cathode. The points of contact of the heaters with the cathode should be at the same potential so as to avoid the passage of current through the cathode. A grid and anode are mounted concentrically around the cathode.
