Abstract

315,295. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. July 11, 1928, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-An indirectly-heated cathode has an insulating body consisting of a mixture of silica and another refractory oxide such as alumina inserted between the heater and the cathode; small quantities of iron oxide and manganese oxide may be added. The heater may consist of a tungsten wire or filament and the insulator may be applied by spraying. The electron-emitting surface, such as an alkaline earth metal or oxide, may be applied directly to the insulator or to an intermediate layer of metal, such as a seamless nickel tube. Barium may be set free from barium oxide applied to the surface of the anode.
