Abstract

347,500. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13A, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. May 16, 1930, No. 15106. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] A cathode for a valve or R÷ntgen ray tube consists of a core 1 of refractory metal such as tungsten, molybdenum or tantalum coated at least partly with a layer 2 of metal such as nickel having a lower melting point on which is wound a wire 3 coated at least partly with electron-emitting material such as alkaline-earth metal or oxide. The wire 3 may be of nickel, or of tungsten coated with nickel, and the electron-emitting material may be applied before or after winding. The core extends beyond the layer so as to reduce the conduction of heat from the cathode. Specifications 274,981 and 275,449, [both in Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.], are referred to.
