Abstract

281,262. Radiotechnique. Nov. 26, 1926, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Vacuum tubes.-A thermionic cathode consists of a core of tungsten or other refractory metal with an adherent sheath of insulating material such as magnesia, baryta, strontia, or lime. which is applied by heating the wire in the material, an electron-emitting metal or compound such as thoriated tungsten being mounted on the sheath, for example in the form of a helical wire with close or open turns disposed along the length or at the centre of the sheath, or of a ring at the centre. The electron-emitting wire may be connected with the core wire or with a separate lead. The melting point of the sheath is lower than that of the core, and higher tLan the temperature at which electrons are emitted by the helix or ring.
