446,862. Thermionic cathodes. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS'GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. May 13, 1935, No. 13983. Convention date, July 26, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] An oxide cathode for electric discharge tubes, particularly gas or vapour filled tubes, comprises a core body of highly refractory material such as tungsten or molybdenum, an emitting layer comprising one or more oxides, and an intermediate layer of rhodium applied directly to the core body by electrolysis. Rhodium layers volatilize less easily than the usual nickel layers or windings. The emissive oxide may be barium oxide. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of a layer comprising a winding of rhodium wire, which may itself be a helix. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
