494,791. Cathode - ray tubes. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc. Sept. 28, 1937, No. 26211. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] The electrode system of a cathode-ray tube comprises a control electrode 30 enclosing an indirectly-heated cathode 28 with a flat emissive end, and elongated focusing electrode 32 enclosing the control electrode and a spoolshaped collimating electrode 33 arranged within the focusing electrode with its end near the middle thereof and having a bore of the same diameter as the aperture of the control electrode ; the distance of the cathode surface from the control electrode, the thickness of the control electrode, and the diameter of the opening of the control electrode are in the ratios 1 : 3 : 6; the distance of the electrode 33 from the electrode 30 is rather less than the diameter of the opening in the electrode. The cathode 28 and electrodes 30, 32 are mounted on an insulating disc 25, the two latter being held in position by a ridge 27 on the disc, which is supported from a stem 20 ; the electrode 32 may also be supported by rods from a collar on the stem. The neck of the tube comprises an inner portion 16 and an outer portion 17 ; the stem 20 is sealed to the portion 17 while the electrode 32 is held in place by a gauge 37 afterwards removed, fitting into the portion 16. The deflecting electrodes 46, 47 (not shown), 48, 49 are mounted on an insulating slab 44 carried by rods 39, 40, secured to a collar 38 on the portion 16. The rods 39, 40 also carry an anode 43 projecting into the space between the electrodes 32 and the portion 16 of the envelope. The leads to these electrodes are sealed through a joint between the flared end 19 of the portion 17 of the stem and the body 12 of the tube, which has a non-reflecting conducting lining 15 ; springs 55, 56 on the rods 39, 40 make contact with the lining 15. The terminals 59 of the deflecting electrodes and anodes are carried on a ring 60, the other terminals 57 being carried on a cap 58.
