Abstract
438,343. Cathode-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. July 20, 1935, No. 20691. Convention date, July 21, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode for a cathoderay tube consists of a nickel disc 3 carrying the electron emissive material heated wholly or mainly by conduction from a tungsten rod 2, which is in turn indirectly heated by a coil 7 mounted on a steatite insulating tube 8 surrounding the rod ; the spiral is attached to the tube by a cement consisting of aluminium oxide mixed with china clay. A nickel tube 1 encloses the heater and is welded to an upturned flange on the disc 3 ; the lower end of the tube 1 is closed by a diaphragm 5, through which pass the heater wires. A cap 4 with a small perforation for the electrons closes the top of the cathode. A support wire 6, which is attached to the tube 1, is made of poor heat-conducting material such as iron.
