Abstract

400,351. Thermionic cathodes. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE, 10, Wiesenweg, Steglitz, and WIENECKE, B., 73, H÷nowerstrasse, Mahlsdorf, both in Berlin. June 29, 1932, No. 18317. Convention date, June 30, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] A pot-like shaped cathode 1 for cathode-ray tubes has a part of its outer surface covered with emissive material arranged in a recess in the body and is indirectly heated. In the form shown the cathode 1 contains a heater 3 surrounded by insulation 2. The emission material 4 is disposed, e.g. by smearing in a depression in the top of the cathode. A nickel cap 5 has an aperture a which limits the cross-section of the cathode beam, and may be 0À1 sq. mm. in area, or less. The distance of the cap from the emissive material is made small enough to prevent the formation of a space-charge in the intervening space and large enough to prevent dispersion of the beam, the preferred distance being about 0À1 mm. The cathode 1 may be conical externally and may consist of a ferro-magnetic material such as nickel or nickel or iron alloys. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the cathode may be used in discharge tubes generally and the heating current may be passed directly through the pot-shaped cathode. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
