Abstract
417,850. Cathode ray tubes. RADIOAKT.-GES.,D. S. LOEWE, 10, Wiesenweg, Steglitz, and SCHLESINGER, K., 39, Friedrichstrasse, Friedrichshagen, both in Berlin. March 9, 1933, Nos. 7117/33, 18362/34, 18363/34, and 18364/34. Convention dates, March 10, 1932, March 18, 1932, March 24, 1932, and April 4, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] A Braun tube, which may be gas-filled, comprises an indirectly-heated cathode 16, Fig. 3, and a control grid 26, which consists of a perforated diaphragm and is arranged at a distance not greater than 2 mms. from the cathode, both electrodes being located within a Wehnelt cylinder 3. A screening and concentrating grid 21 may be arranged near the control grid and is provided with a cylindrical member which surrounds the control grid. In a modification, the control grid consists of a cylinder 1, Fig. 4, provided with a tubular abutment 7 or with a meshed grid fitted in the opening for the ray. An indirectly-heated cathode consists of an electron-emitting metal or oxide coating 6 on a coating 5 on an insulating tube 3 which is secured within the cylinder by means of an insulating plate 2. A heater 4 is energized from a battery 9. The cylinder may have a positive potential of 10 to 60 volts with respect to the cathode, which may be furnished with a plane convex or concave electron-emitting surface. The invention is applicable to the construction of Braun tube described in Specification 420,667. An electron optical system comprising an anode, having a tubular abutment, and a plate-shaped electrode, and a getter or a hydride to maintain the gas pressure may be provided as described in Specification 417,713. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the tube may be provided with insulating or metallic members for screening the cathode ray from the highvoltage leads as described in Specification 420,876. The cathode may be located within a container, closed with the exception of an opening for the ray, and is provided with an electron-emitting coating by the generation of metallic vapour from a substance located within the container as described in Specification 417,714. An auxiliary electrode in the form of an internal coating may be provided. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
