Abstract
538,684. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1940, No. 2670. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] In cathode-ray tubes the formation of a black spot by negative ions on the fluorescent screen is prevented by separating the ions from the electron beam by means of magnetic deflection the electron beam being focused to minimum diameter to pass through an orifice in a barrier on which the ions impinge. The composite ion and electron beam may be acted on by an electrostatic field produced by plates 12, 13, Fig. 1, to deflect it as a whole the electrons being returned to their original path by a magnetic field H ; or only a magnetic field H, Fig. 3, may be used for the separation, the electron beam 15a passing through the orifice 8 in the barrier 11, which forms part of a gun tilted in the cathode-ray tube. To shorten the focusing system diaphragms 27, 28, Fig. 5, may be interposed between the anode 26 and tube 7 in which supports the barrier 11. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes an arrangement wherein the negative ions impinge on the wall of the envelope. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
