402,041. Electron - discharge tubes. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Feb. 17, 1932, No. 4752. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 10, 1932]. [Class 39 (i).] A thermionic valve or electron discharge tube for generating, receiving or amplifying electrical oscillations is provided with cathode, a control grid, an anode of grid form and a screen grid mounted beyond the anode, such screen grid being preferably earthed or otherwise maintained at a potential below that of the anode. The tube shown comprises a directly heated cathode 12 mounted within a control grid 11 which is mounted within an anode 9 surrounded by a screen grid 13. The anode 9 consists of wires wound around rods 10 supported from a metal ring 8 on the usual stem 7. The cathode 12 consists of a wire having a core of refractory material such as tungsten and an electron-emitting coating such as barium oxide. The screen grid 13 consists of wires wound about rods 14, supported, with the interposition of insulating glass beads 18, from the rods 10. A glass rod 15 carried by the rods 10 carries the supports for the control grid 11 and supports the cathode 12 through spring hooks 16. One of the rods 10 is provided with a container for a getter substance such as magnesium. The screen 13 may be in conductive connection with the cathode 12.
