Abstract
282,712. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. Dec. 30, 1926, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes. - A valve has a filament, one or more anodes of small dimensions, and one or more shields, which are maintained at a constant potential, and surround one or more grids, the shields acting as regards the shielding effect as continuation surfaces of the anode. As shown, a short anode e is mounted around a filament a and a grid d, and shields f, g of the same cross-section as the anode extend above and below the anode and are supported on it by means of glass beads k. A support c for the upper end of the filament also carries the shields and maintains them at the potential of the filament. A second support p is secured to the shield f. The anode lead may be taken to a contact on the cap or through the opposite end of the bulb. The shields serve to prevent electrostatic lines of force from passing from the grid to the outside of the anode, and also to prevent the passage of electrons from the filament to the bulb. In a modification, a shield surrounds the anode and extends beyond it on one or both sides. Apertures are formed in the shield around the anode to facilitate removal of gas by high frequency heating.
