Abstract

516,111. Thermionic valves. HYGRADE SYLVANIA CORPORATION. May 17. 1938, No. 14722. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1938. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Section 91 of the Acts, Nov. 29, 1938.] [Class 39 (i)] In thermionic valves of the screened-grid type, the envelope 31, Fig. 5, is closed by a glass header 32, through which all the lead-ins to the electrodes are sealed, and a conductive shield 80 is provided on the interior face of the header and is surrounded by the lead-ins whereby the control grid lead-in is electrostatically shielded from one or more of the others. The lead-ins 35 are adapted to act as contact pins and are sealed through the header as described in Specification 516,110. The electrode system described consists of an indirectly heated cathode, control grid, screen grid, suppressor grid and anode mounted between mica discs. The mount is shielded by a metal cylinder 66, with closed ends and the shield is continued outside the envelope by a metal cap 70, the edge of which overlaps the lower end of the cylinder 66. The cap is apertured for the passage of the contact pins and carries a central tubular extension 75 with a locating rib adapted to co-operate with a grounded socket. The disc 80 is connected to the shielding cylinder 66 by arms 93, 94, Fig. 8, and also carries a shield 83 for the control grid lead-in. A mica bridge 90 is supported by the contact pins and carries metal straps and tabs 103, 104 by which the ends of the cathode heating filament may be soldered to its contact pins. Specification 516,167 is referred to.
