516,169. Thermionic-valve caps. HYGRADE SYLVANIA CORPORATION. May 17, 1938, Nos. 17177/39 and 17178/39. Convention dates, May 28, 1937, and Feb. 8, 1938. Divided out of 516,110, and 516,111, [both in Group XL]. [Class 38 (i)] A cap or base for shielding the prongs of a valve having a flat header 32 of glass into which the lead-in prongs 35, 39 are sealed, is formed of a metal cup 9, 71 having a central boss 18, 75 and apertures through which the prongs extend. The apertures may be in the form of large windows 10, 11, 12, Fig. 2, through each of which two prongs 3 .... 8 pass. Or a circular aperture 34a, Fig. 5, may be provided for each prong, a boss 34 formed on the header 32 fitting into each aperture. The boss 75 may form an earthing connection engaging a grounded contact spring 78 in the socket and one prong 39 may then be connected to the cap 71 by a strap 79. An outer metal casing enclosing the valve envelope may be provided and connected to the metal cap or base. Specification 516,167, [Group XL], also is referred to.
