Abstract

541,629. Thermionic valves. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 31, 1940, No. 9548. Convention date, May 31, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] In high-frequency power valves, the cathode consists of a number of filaments 13, arranged in parallel around a cylinder. They are secured at their upper ends to fixed supporting leads 33, which are spaced in insulating discs 35, 36. The lower ends are secured to lugs 42 on a disc 41. A rod 44 secured to the disc 41, moves freely in the discs 35, 36 and is acted on by a compression spring bearing on a stop piece 46 to maintain the filaments in tension. A housing formed in two parts 49, 50 encloses the spring and the two parts are designed to abut when the spring is compressed to a degree representing the tension of the filaments in the cold state. The invention is described in connection with a valve, the envelope of which is formed by the anode to which is sealed a glass part carrying re-entrant press for the cathode leads. A base cap, carrying the terminals, consisting of a disc of insulating material is secured to the envelope by an angle ring cemented in position. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a mount for the grid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted, but is described in Specification 541,645.
