Abstract
541,645. Thermionic valves. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO.,. Ltd. May 31, 1940. No. 14304/41. Convention date, May 31, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] High frequency power valves. comprise a cylindrical anode 10 enclosing a cathode 13 and grid 15, an envelope 17 having a re-entrant stem portion 31 through which the cathode conductors 33 are sealed, a :glass sleeve 54 surrounding the stem, and two tubular metal members 55, 57 supported from the sleeve 54 and between the abutting edges of which 'is clamped a flat ring 60 forming the lead-in connection for the grid whose support rods 16 are carried by the member 57. The ring is integrally connected to a ribbon 61 having a reversely bent resilient portion 62 and crimped at its end around a metal block silver soldered into a contact member 64. The end of the envelope is fitted with an insulating cap 19 secured by an angle ring 20 cemented in position. The cap supports a series of terminals 22 for the cathode leads and is provided with holes, one of which has a tubulation 28 for attachment to a source of air under pressure, for the circulation of cooling air about the lead-in seals. The anode 10 has an outwardly directed flange 11 to facilitate its assembly with a water jacket or other cooling device. The member 55 is preferably made of nickel-iron-cobalt alloy such as described in Specification 449,807, [Group II], for sealing to the glass sleeve 54.
