Abstract

795,710. Thermionic valves. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 12, 1956 [March 15, 1955], No. 7645/56. Class 39(1). An anode 10 forms part of the envelope of a discharge tube, and is connected to the glass base by an annular metal member 50 having at least one flange, and having an internal diameter less than that of the anode and base ; this acts to conserve the heat in the upper part of the tube, and also to protect the seals in the lower part from electron bombardment. The inner surface of the anode corresponds in shape to the outer surface of the cathode 11, so that the cathode-anode spacing is everywhere constant. The high-voltage diode rectifier shown has the cathode and heater connections in the form of coaxial lines 53, 55, but ordinary lead-in conductors may be used, Fig. 1 (not shown). The tube can be supported by a clamp gripping the anode, and completely immersed in oil, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). Some tube dimensions and operational data are given.
