Abstract

216,840. Telefunken Ges. f³r Drahtlose Telegraphie. May 30, 1923, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-A thermionic cathode is formed of a wire or filament of metal of high melting point such as tungsten or tantalum to which hafnium or a compound thereof has been added. Hafnium is preferably added to the metal before drawing; oxidation of the wire &c. may be reduced by carbon, potassium, sodium or magnesium. Small quantities of electron emitting substances may be added, such as alkaline earths and rare earth metals, yttrium, scandium, thorium, zirconium, titanium, or compounds thereof. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also coating hafnium on the wire at red heat. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
