Abstract
542,971. Thermionic valves. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. July 29, 1940, No. 12312. Convention date, July 29, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] In a valve with a cathode co-operating with two anodes each with its grids adapted to be connected in push-pull each anode is capacitycoupled to the grid controlling the other anode by extensions on the anodes or grid or both. The cathode 21 is in the form of a ribbon bent into a U-shape and corrugated to direct the electrons between the bars of the grids 26, 27. The centre of the cathode is earthed by a connection to the metal envelope. The grids are formed of rods extending between bars which are carried in hollow leads 16, 17 and connected by metal sheets extending round the anodes 24, 25 as shown. The capacity between the metal sheets and the anodes may be varied by bending the sheets by means of levers secured to bellows protecting openings in the envelope and operated by screws. One extension 27, Fig. 1, may be attached to its lead by arms passing through slots in a plate connecting the other extension 26 and grid. In a further arrangement extensions on both anodes and grids interengage. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes adjusting the capacity by bending portions of the enclosing plates through fluid actuated means or by adjustable plates. Screen grid arrangements are described wherein the capacity coupling is obtained by placing the leads 16, 17, near the anodes. Water cooling of the anodes is described. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
