[Class 6 (i)] [See also Groups XXIV, XIX, and XXXV] A road-wheel 46 of a drilling, seedsowing, or fertilizer-distributing machine, drives the seed-hopper paddle-shaft 52, directly through toothed gearing, whilst the sowing- shaft 53 is connected by chaingearing 56 to the driven-pulley 38 of a variable-speed friction gear, driven by the pinion 50. The variable-speed gear comprises aligned driving and driven cone-pulleys 37, 38, each coupled to countershaft cone-pulleys 122, 121, by friction-rings and rollers 39, 40, 41, 42, carried in a frame 43, axially adjustable by screws 44, 45, turned by a hand-wheel and chain-gearing.
