Oct. 7, 1924. variable-speed gearing.-Two-speed gearing suitable for lifts comprises an epicyclic train controlled by a worm which locks or is driven through an electrically-controlled clutch. Driving and driven shafts 1, 7 carrv the side gears 4, 9 of the train, the planet gears 5 being carried by a worm-wheel 6 meshing with a worm 10. When a clutch 13 controlled by a solenoid 14 is open, the worm-and-wheel lock, producing the high speed. For a low speed, the worm is driven from a sprocket 15 driven by the motor by letting in the clutch 13.
