Abstract
239,955. Fenn, A. G. July 2, 1924. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Variable-speed gearing comprises a bevel epicyclic train in which one side member 3 drives, the carrier 7 of the planet gears 9 is driven, and the other side gear 11 is controlled or allowed to slip by a variable pump. In the arrangement described, the gear 11 is mounted loosely on a driving-shaft 4 and is integral with a sleeve 12 carrying three eccentrics 15 driving pump pistons 18. The lower part of a. casing 1 contains lubricating oil which is drawn in through ports 24 and discharged through ports 25 into a barrel valve 28. When the valve 28 is turned, the oil is throttled and the resistance to turning of the gear 11 varies so that the speed of the driven elements 7, 6 is varied. The side gears 3, 11 may be of different sizes.
