Abstract
176,356. Henriod, C. E. March 5, 1921, [Convention date]. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing comprises planet gears p carried by a driving fly - wheel a and adapted to be intermittently locked when oscillating so as to impart a variable or reversed drive to a sun gear f on a driven shaft g. A non- revoluble ring e has a circular groove e' engaged by pins d upon the gears p so that, as the ring is moved to an eccentric position, the gears are oscillated with increasing amplitude. The ring e has a second groove o engaged by bosses n projecting from plates l situated alongside the gears. The pins d project through holes in the bosses n. Swells o<1> upon the groove o have the effect of sliding the plates l relatively to the gears p for a fraction of a revolution. Pins m on the plates l coact with bell-crank levers i carried by the gears in such a way as to rock these levers and so bring dogs k into engagement with teeth x on the gears p and so lock the gears for a part of a revolution as they oscillate in one direction. This drives the gear f. In a modification, the locking is effected by jamming an eccentrically-mounted toothed wheel against a coacting toothed wheel. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) was in the form of a patent of addition on Specification 154,904.
