205,079. Aktiebolaget Ljungstr÷ms Angturbin. Oct. 3, 1922. [Convention date]. Reversing-gearing, suitable for locomotives, of the kind in which toothed wheels are moved in their own planes into mesh, is provided with an auxiliary rotary motor for turning the countershaft so as to bring the wheels that are to be meshed into proper position for interengagement. A shaft 1, Fig. 1, drives a shaft 3 through constant mesh gearing. A shaft 4 driven from the shaft 3 preferably by a constant-mesh pair is eccentrically mounted so that it can be moved to bring a gear 4<1> into mesh with a gear 6<1> on a driven shaft 6 for forward driving. For reversed driving, connection is effected through gears on an eccentrically-mounted idle shaft 5. The eccentric mountings of the shafts 4, 5 may be operated through links 7, 9 from oil-actuated pistons 8, 19 controlled by a lever 26. The auxiliary rotary motor is preferably a Pelton-wheel 21, Fig. 2, connected through gearing 22 and a clutch 24 with the shaft 1, the whole being within a casing 20. Oil for driving the motor 21 arrives through a duct 28 being controlled by the same lever 26. A third piston 10 operates a sector 13 for locking the reversing-gearing, and pointers upon an indicator 14 show the position of the reverse controlling eccentrics. The proper engaging of the gear teeth is effected by trial with the lever 26.
