Abstract
128,206. Aktiebolaget Ljungstr÷ms Angturbin. June 12, 1918, [Convention date]. Connecting and disconnecting arrangements.- Gearing of the kind in which toothed wheels are moved in their own planes into mesh is operated hydraulically so that the change of mesh can be effected only when the toothed wheels are at rest and the teeth to be intermeshed are in proper relative positions. A driving pinion 1 is secured to a fixed shaft 4. The wheel 2 to be driven is supported in a pivoted frame 16 so that it can be intermeshed with the pinion 1 for forward driving. An idler 3 supported eccentrically in a revoluble disk 18 is adapted to be intermeshed with the pinion 1 and with the wheel 2 for reversed driv ing. The disk 18 is connected by a link 19 and a crank to a shaft 13, which carries a cam 14 working in jaws in the frame 16. Turning the shaft 13 by a hydraulic cylinder 7 effects the change of mesh. The toothed wheels are brought to rest prior to changing mesh by friction segments 37, 38 thrust hydraulically against friction rims upon them. The gears 1, 3 are turned to bring teeth everywhere opposite spaces prior to meshing by pawls 26. An operating-lever 30 pivoted to a valve 32 is interlocked by spring detents 57 with the throttle or like controlling-lever 56 of the source of power, so that the lever 30 can be moved only when the motor is stopped. The toothed gearing is locked during power transmission by a detent 47a on a shaft 46 engaging a recess in a disk 48<a> secured to a shaft 50, which is connected by gearing 49, 51 to the shaft 13. Gearing 48, 52 connects the shaft 50 to the shaft 46, which can move up and down, and at its upper end may or may not engage the pivot 76 of'the lever 30, so preventing the lever 30 being improperly moved The valve 32 is turned about its axis by the lever 30 to change mesh by way of a cylinder 7. The first possible movement is a downward one of the lever 30 depressing the valve 32 and operating the disks 37, 38. If the wheels are in motion, a rod 43 rises and locks the lever 30, so that the valve 32 cannot be turned. This operation is repeated till the rod 43 does not rise. Further downward movement admits fluid under the .end of the shaft 46 raising it and unlocking the shafts 50, 13. This movement also operates the pawls 26. The valve 32 can then be turned to effect the change. Compressed air may be used instead of water or oil under pressure, and helical toothed gearing may be employed.
