Abstract
384,025. Thermal and magnetic switches. GLOUCESTER INCUBATOR CO., Ltd. and WRENTMORE, G. W., Woodchester Works, Stroud, Gloucestershire. Oct. 10, 1931, No. 28201. [Class 38 (v).] An automatic device for the thermal control of incubators, rooms and the like comprises a rockable lever adapted to be moved by a temperature-sensitive device and carrying at one end a permanent magnet, a rockable armature which, as the magnet is rocked, is rocked about the armature axis and an electric contact or a rod secured to a damper carried by the armature. The thermostat comprises a capsule 11 having a nipple 13 with a central depression into which projects a projection on a spring blade 15 carried by the capsule. A rod 17 bears on the spring blade and is connected at its upper end by an adjustable screw 19 with a rockable lever 5 on the outer end of which is a permanent magnet 25. A plate armature 39 is carried by a yoke 37 pivoted at 35 so that as the magnet moves up and down the armature 39 is rocked. The armature carries a bar 41 which is secured to a pair of contacts 45 adapted to dip into mercury cups 47 of an electric heater. Alternatively or in addition the armature may carry a rod 61 to which a damper 67 is linked. The mercury cups 47 are provided with screwed plugs to prevent loss of mercury during transport.
