Abstract

[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A water heater 16 or like device is controlled as to its temperature by means of a temperatureresponsive device 12 and a relay 1, the armature of which after attraction by A.C. in the relay is held set by remanent magnetism and later released by a small A.C. demagnetizing current. When the temperature falls so that the pointer 14 of a temperature-responsive device 12 engages a contact 10 circuit is completed through the coil 1 of the relay causing it to move into its other position in which a circuit to a heater 17 is closed and a circuit to the coil 1 prepared. This circuit which includes a resistance 21 to limit the current is completed when the pointer 14 engages the contact 13 and causes the relay to release.
