Abstract
690,294. Automatic temperature control systems. BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS, Ltd. Feb. 27, 1951 [Sept. 27, 1950], No. 23710/60. Class 38 (iv). A bimetallic strip thermostat controlling an electric heater has its differential reduced by a biasing auxiliary heater intermittently energized at a constant frequency. An electric heater coil HE is connected to a high frequency A.C. source by a mercury switch MR controlled by the bimetallic thermostat TC which detects the temperature of an unspecified object being heated by coil HE. The thermostat is also influenced by an auxiliary heater HW<SP>1</SP> which cannot by itself open the contacts of the thermostat. The heater is intermittently energized by pulses of a substantially constant frequency controlled by a temperature compensated interrupter ER, comprising a heater HW<SP>2</SP> and a bimetallic strip arranged to cycle continuously. It is stated that the heater HE may alternatively be energized from a D.C. source.
