Abstract

599,941. Thermal switches. THOMPSON & CO. (SUNBURY), Ltd., R. E., and BENFORD, P. R. Sept. 25, 1945, No. 24816. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A thermostatic switch enclosed in the cover 2 of an outlet plug (see Group XXXVI) comprises a U-shaped bimetallic element 14 one end of which carries a contact 19 and an armature co-operating with a magnet 200 secured to the switch base 13 so as to cause the contact 19 to move in and out of engagement with a fixed contact (not shown) constituting one switch terminal, with a snap-action. The other end of the element 14 is secured to a bush 15 threaded on a spindle 21 projecting through the cover 2 and carrying a control knob 27 for adjusting the temperature at which the switch operates by moving the element towards or away from the fixed contact. The bush 15 is connected by a leaf-spring 17 to the other terminal of the switch.
