Abstract

710,350. Thermal switches. SUNVIC CONTROLS, Ltd. March 27, 1952 [April 6, 1951], No. 8050/51. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV] In Fig. 2 a thermal switch employed in an automatic temperature control system for a furnace (see Group XXXV) comprises two bimetallic strips 8 and 9 bolted to an insulating base 30 and carrying cooperating contacts 5 and 6. A heater winding 7 for strip 8 is energized by the control current and snap action is produced by a permanent magnet 37, carried by strip 8, co-operating with an armature 41 of magnetic material carried by strip 9. Contact 6 is carried by a spring blade 39 bolted to armature 41 at 40 and bent over armature 41 at 43 to limit relative movement. A winding 15 for strip 9 is connected in series with the contacts and may be arranged to compensate the differential to any desired extent. The position of armature 41 relative to magnet 37 when contacts 5 and 6 are closed is adjustable by a screw 35 to set the differential. The relative position of strips 8 and 9 may be adjusted by a screw 34.
