Abstract
659,449. Automatic temperature control systems. BUSER, T., and SAIA AKT.-GES. FUR SCHALTAPPARATE. April 5, 1949, No. 9283. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In an arrangement wherein a temperatureresponsive or other instrument z controls the current to a load v by engaging maximum or minimum contacts which control relays 1, 2, these contacts are adapted to take only the small current required to demagnetize relays 1, 2 whose armatures are held by remanent magnetism, and the circuit through these contacts is broken elsewhere. The relays 1, 2 each comprises an L-shaped armature 9 held in the position shown by a contact spring 11 and adapted when attracted to open contacts 12 and close contacts 13. The armatures of the two relays also co-operate with a centrally-pivoted rocker 21 controlled by a dead-centre spring 18 and carrying two arms 15, 16 each carrying contacts 22, 23. The arm 16 is situated behind the arm 15, Fig. 1. Energization of either relay will pull down its end of the rocker if it is not already in that position and subsequent release of the relay will have no effect on the rocker. In Fig. 4, relay 1 is " released " and relay 2 has its armature held by remanent magnetism. When, with change of temperature, the instrument z engages its maximum contact, a small A.C. demagnetizing current passes through the resistance W2 and the relay coil 2 causing release of its armature, breaking of the load circuit v and of the demagnetizing current at 2a and completion at 2r of a circuit to relay 1 which operates its contacts 1a and 1r and reverses the position of rockers 15, 16, thereby breaking the relay circuit at 15a and preparing at 1a a demagnetizing circuit for the relay 1. This latter circuit is completed when the instrument z engages its minimum contact, whereupon relay 1 releases and completes a circuit through relay which brings all parts back to their original positions.
