Abstract
564,935. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and YULE, W. H. D. April 16, 1943, No. 6109. [Class 38 (v)] A sensitive high-speed relay has its armature normally held lightly against one part A of the bifurcated pole A, B of a permanent magnet; overload current of suitable direction in a coil mounted on A neutralizes the permanent magnetism in A so that the armature is attracted to B and after a short movement will reach a position in which the permanent magnetic forces are sufficient to carry it right over into its final position. The pole A may be made smaller than the pole B or A and B may be made of different magnetic materials, or the air gap at A may be made larger than at B, or the armature may be mechanically biassed.
