Abstract
A polarized, electromagnetic relay of a relay assembly has its permanent magnet common to the relays and acting as a shunt to the armature and operative air-gap. The Figure shows parts of two relays having a common yoke 1 and common permanent magnet 10. Each relay has an armature 11 (only part of one shown) biased away from polepieces 13 on cores 2, 3 which have short-circuited copper rings 6, 7 to limit A.C. response. Saturable magnetic shunts 8, 9 extend between the cores and yoke. Energization of the winding 4 or 5 in the direction shown induces flux in opposition to the permanent magnet which saturates the shunt 8 or 9 and causes attraction of the armature. Energization, in the reverse direction induces flux in the same direction as that of the permanent magnet and the armature is not attracted. The shunts 8, 9 may be omitted or replaced by a common slotted member. The magnet 10 may embrace the ends of cores 2 and 3 (Fig. 2, not shown).
