Abstract

1,195,629. Remanent relays. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. 15 Oct., 1968 [7 Nov., 1967], No. 48750/68. Heading H1N. A remanent electromagnetic relay has a permanent magnet arranged in a branch of the magnetic circuit so that its flux passes through the remanent magnet when the relay armature is in its unattracted position and not when the remanent magnet polarity is reversed to attract the armature. As shown a permanent magnet 16 is mounted between yoke members 11, 15 which engage opposite ends of the relay core 22 which is or includes a remanent magnet 24. The armature 31 is pivoted on a limb 12 of the yoke member 11 and is biased away from the core end 23 by a spring 19. The coil 21 which may have one or more windings, can be pulsed to reverse the polarity of the magnet 24 and when its flux adds to that of the permanent magnet in the armature, the armature is held attracted to the core end 23.
