Abstract
517,000. Electromagnetic relays. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd. July 15, 1938, No. 21111. Convention date, March 5, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] A polarized relay, responsive to current in one direction only. comprises poles 1, 2 connected by a core 3 carrying a winding 4, an armature 5 pivoted at 6, and a permanent magnet 9 arranged as shown. Gravity and the magnet 9 normally retain the armature in the position shown but current through the winding 4 in the right direction will oppose and over come the flux due to the permanent magnet and cause the armature to be attracted and contacts 7, 8 operated. The relay may be used for checking the correct operation of a polar relay which normally maintains the polarity of a circuit by effecting a change of connections every time the polarity of the supply is reversed.
