Abstract
549,393. Rest or motion indicators. STERN, W. May 17, 1941, No. 6371. [Class 106 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] An indicating or other circuit 1 is periodically opened and closed so long as a shaft 7 is moving by means of cooperating magnetic members 6, 8 on a contact 5 and the shaft 7, but remains permanently opened when the shaft is at rest. The member 8 may be a permanent magnet the poles of which approach and move away from the armature 6 as the shaft 7 rotates so causing continuous interruption of the contacts 4, 5 and of the circuit 1. A second pair of relay contacts 11, 12 is arranged as shown but remains closed while the shaft rotates the intermittent energization of the relay coil 13 being insufficient to open them. When, however, the shaft stops, if the contacts 4, 5 happen to be closed, a continuous current will pass through the relay 13 opening the contacts 11, 12. Thus the lamp 1 will always be extinguished. A delayed action relay may take the place of the lamp 1 (Fig. 2, not shown).
