[Class 38 (v)] A relay, particularly suitable for railway signalling systems, has two parallel cores 1, 1a surrounded by series-connected energizing windings and connected by a backstrap 3, a neutral armature 11 co-operating with pole pieces 2a on the free ends of The cores, and a magnetic yoke 22 connected with the backstrap 3 and having ears 22a between which is pivoted at its centre a polarized armature 20 extending transversely of the cores. Two permanent magnets 25, 26 extend parallel to the cores and are connected at one end to the pole pieces 2a and at the other end to pole shoes 23, 24 one or other of which attracts a corresponding end of the polar armature according to the direction of the current in the windings. Each end of the polar armature 20 carries a post 35 adapted to actuate the movable contacts of two vertical sets of contacts 28, 29. The neutral armature 11 is mounted on an L-shaped bracket one arm 12b of which carries two other posts 35 adapted to operate four vertical sets of contacts 28, 29. Thus the insulating back plate 6 carries in all eight sets of contacts, four of which are controlled by the polar armature and four by the neutral armature.
